prognoses, haibun by Jim Westenhaver

Categories: ,

Westenhaver’s haibun are completely disarming, invoking the quotidian in a casual way and lulling the reader into thinking each piece is about “nothing much.” But these snippets of reality, and their tossed-off, often caustic, end poems accumulate a momentum and gravitas that cannot be anticipated. The emotion that ensues is unlike that to be found anywhere else.
