reach the wind, a posthumous collection of haiku by Laurie Stoelting

$7.00

Description

Laurie Stoelting (1943 – 2014) was an avid swimmer, hiker and poet, and became, in her last years, an activist for the cause of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease, with which she was diagnosed in 1997 and which ultimately claimed her life. As a hiker she favored Mt. Tamalpais, which loomed up behind her Mill Valley home. She often composed haiku as she hiked, and some of the best of those poems were gathered into her best-known work, Light on the Mountain (Mill Valley, CA: Field Trips, 2000). Following her diagnosis she co-led the Marin Parkinson’s Support Group. She accepted her situation as a challenge, and inspired those who knew her with her optimism and continued dedication to haiku and to living well.
