Description

Lorraine Ellis Harr (Tombo) (1912-2006) was founder of the Western World Haiku Society (1972), editor of Haiku Highlights, later renamed Dragonfly: A Quarterly of Haiku (1972-1985), and author of 14 books of poetry, mostly haiku and related forms. She was published in all of the major haiku journals around the world and in several languages. A traditionalist, she nevertheless innovated when her poems called for it. She was one of the first American poets to write haiku in a single line, for instance, and she, perhaps more than any other non-Japanese, favored the sequence as a vehicle for cumulative haiku ambience. She appears in the second and third editions of The Haiku Anthology, edited by Cor van den Heuvel.
